The battery in the key is only there for the remote key functions (lock, unlock the car, roll the windows down, pop open the trunk & the panic alarm set off). Sometimes when the key is opened up, the tiny EWS chip will fall out & without that, the key will not start the car. Without the EWS chip, the key can not talk to the EWS module & tell Turn the ignition to position 1 and then turn it back off within five seconds. Remove the key from the ignition swich. Press and hold the “Unlock” button. Press the “Key lock” button three times within five seconds. Release both buttons. If the reprogramming has been successful the car doors will lock and unlock again.
